Calvin Sang, Creative Director and Founder of Eyes and Ears, recently directed on Small Town Scandal, the screen adaptation of Tom Sainsbury’s hit true-crime comedy podcast, currently streaming on NEON. The hilarious eight-part series follows a disgraced journalist who returns to his rural hometown to investigate the bizarre lawnmower-related death of his millionaire uncle, uncovering a trail of eccentric locals and increasingly absurd secrets along the way.

The production features a high-profile cast including British screen icon Felicity Kendal, Kiwi comedian Rose Matafeo, Emmy award-winner Morgana O’Reilly and Alexander England, bringing together a mix of local and international talent.

“What stood out on this project here was the people – it turned into one of the most good‑natured, genuinely wholesome cast and crews I’ve worked with,” says Calvin. “The whole experience was both creatively challenging and a lot of fun – what more could I ask for?”

Directed by Ghazaleh Gol and Calvin Sang, the series is produced by Georgina Conder, Carthew Neal and Sainsbury, and produced by Fumes Production and Miss Conception Films, with BBC Studios overseeing international sales. Commissioned by Sky New Zealand Originals for Sky Open, Sky Go and Neon, and supported by New Zealand On Air and the New Zealand Government’s Screen Production Rebate, the series marks a major comedy release for 2026.
